Artist Statement
I make ink drawings on paper, often in series, ranging in size from miniature to monumental. Built through the slow accretion of marks, the drawings become abstract fields. An accumulation of stippling, scribbling, circles, dots and lines has come to be a personal language. My fine-line markers have a tapered nib and generous ink flow; the hot-press watercolor paper is heavy, strong and smooth. I am drawn to the tension between order and disorder, micro and macro, density and vacancy, control and disarray. The drawings are done freehand, testing the limits of concentration, revealing every wobble and hesitation, teetering on the edge of chaos, gaining a semblance of control through the grid, the square, the repetitiveness of the mark.
About Jennifer Cadoff
After working as a magazine writer and editor for many years, Jennifer Cadoff earned a BFA and turned to art full time. She works most often with ink on watercolor paper, sometimes combining the drawings into collages, and sometimes crafting multimedia paperworks that incorporate the techniques of hand-made books. Her award-winning work has been shown in many regional and national exhibitions. When she lived in New Jersey she was invited to participate in “America Through Artists’ Eyes” at the New Jersey State Museum, and “Jersey Women Artists Now: Contemporary Visions” at The George Segal Gallery at Montclair State University. Currently, she is a juried member of several NY/CT artists organizations. Her work has been included in PAPER and in Art of the Northeast (AoNE), both at Silvermine Galleries in New Canaan, CT; and was selected for Nor’Easter at the New Britain Museum of American Art in New Britain CT. She has a solo exhibition coming up this year at the Harrison Library.
