Internships

Hudson Valley MOCA offers internships year-round for students and emerging professionals in a wide-range of departments, including education, press and social media, administration, and more.

Administrative Internship

Hudson Valley MOCA is looking for inspired individuals to join their team who would like to develop their knowledge of museum administration and exhibition realization. The Administrative Intern will assist the Executive Administrator with general administration in connection with forthcoming exhibitions and events, as well as supporting our membership initiatives and development programs. This is a great opportunity for motivated individuals who want to learn more about the inner-workings of non-profit arts organizations. Interns will have the opportunity to work closely with staff including the Executive Director and Executive Administrator, as well as local, regional, and international artists.

Education Internship

Hudson Valley MOCA is seeking highly organized and motivated part-time interns to support the Education department. Interns will assist with the educational outreach and programs at Hudson Valley MOCA (including teaching artists-in-residence, in-house educational programs, tours, creative workshops and more), day to day operations, and general administrative duties related to education. Education interns can expect a wide variety of responsibilities on a day to day basis, with the opportunity to gain experience in a museum environment by observing and assisting staff while obtaining insight into the administrative and curatorial side of a non-profit contemporary art institution. Interns will have the opportunity to work closely with staff including the Executive Director and Executive Administrator, as well as local, regional, and international artists.

Press and Digital Communication Internship

Hudson Valley MOCA is seeking highly organized and motivated part-time interns to support the Social Media and Press Coordinator. Press and Digital Communications interns will gain hands-on experience in social media, public relations, and digital content creation, in addition to day-to-day operations at a non-profit arts organization. Responsibilities vary, but include tasks related to our website, social media accounts, and outreach to press organizations and art industry contacts. Interns will have the opportunity to work closely with staff including the Executive Director and Executive Administrator, as well as local, regional, and international artists.


VOLUNTEER opportunities

On-Call Volunteer

On-call volunteers are available to support museum staff in a variety of capacities for events including openings, film screenings, lectures, panel discussions, workshops, and more. The ideal candidate will be motivated, welcoming, and all around excited to support and promote Hudson Valley MOCA programming with our guests and visitors. Volunteers should be comfortable with a variety of tasks, from event set up-and break-down, to greeting and checking in guests, or serving refreshments. This role is crucial in supporting the museum’s efforts to create exciting and accessible programming for all.

Drop In and Create Volunteer

Our Drop in and Create Program is a weekly art workshop for children, families, and visitors of all ages. Volunteers lead and assist with our in-house education programs developed by our Director of Education. The ideal candidate is personable, energetic, patient, and a natural with children. Volunteers are also advocates for the museum’s education department by informing visitors of our education initiatives including special events, tours, and school programs. Teaching experience and fluency in Spanish a plus.

Front of House Volunteer

FoH volunteers are essential members of our team during open hours and a key point of contact for visitors. Hudson Valley MOCA is looking for motivated and passionate volunteers to engage with the public by providing up-to-date information on current exhibitions, museum events, and programming, as well as general knowledge of the Peekskill community. You should have a welcoming presence, be excited to engage with visitors and ensure an enjoyable experience from beginning to end. Ability to learn and work with the museum admissions system is a must.

Volunteer Docent

Our Volunteer Docents conduct museum tours facilitating visitor interpretation using inquiry-based methodologies. Through their enthusiasm, knowledge, and confidence, docents allow the public greater accessibility to to the content of an exhibition. All docents will undergo a training process that will fully prepare them for speaking to a wide range of age groups. The ideal candidate will have a great speaking voice and feel comfortable speaking in front of a large crowd. Fluency in Spanish a plus.
