Artist Statement

I began lockdown intending to make art without the psychic pollution of the news or social media, and without specifically referencing the virus or the endless cycle of terrible news. Instead, I watched the nature documentary Blue Planet II, narrated by David Attenborough, and I became obsessed with bobbit worms. I began making digital illustrations of bobbit worms in human situations. They amuse me.


About G. Ray Mak

G. Ray Mak is a multi-media artist based in Westchester County, NY. A child of the 80s and 90s, Mak is heavily informed by pop culture and current events. Themes of diasporic identity and apocalyptic anxiety often creep into his work. Along with abstract, action-based paintings, performance art, and poetry, Mak has most recently been interested in graphic design and the semiotics of the Spectacle.
