Ozioma Onuzulike
Nigerian Ceramic Artist, Poet and Academic, Community Talk and Poetry Reading
Ceramic Artist, Poet and Academic, Mr. Onuzulike, hails from Nsukka, Nigeria where he is Director of the Institute of African Studies at the University of Nigeria. He explores the aesthetic, symbolic and metaphoric nature of clay. His recent work, currently on view at HVMOCA, is inspired by such natural resources as yam tubers, palm kernel shells and honeycombs that he produces in ceramic in mass amounts and weaves together laboriously into Afro Centric tapestries referencing the slave trade and the imbalance in political relations between Africa and the West. A deeply religious person, his poetry sings to the ethereal in us all.
