Join Hudson Valley MOCA in March for a month full of opportunities for all ages and interests, from collaborating on a public art project, talking directly with professional artists and gallerists, and even attending the opening reception of our newest exhibition.

A Conversation with Jeanne Silverthorne
Tickets - $10 members, $20 general admission

Artist studios are places for creative experimentation with all sorts of materials - even your average desk chair. Taking a look at Jeanne Silverthorne’s Bubble Wrapped Task Chair with Rubber Base, the “How We Live” artist will lead an intimate and open discussion about her practice and working within a modern studio. Together, we’ll investigate how artists pack, wrap, and store everyday studio items, with audience members in direct conversation with an established working artist.

Be one of the first to see a survey of works from art faculty at higher-education institutions across the Hudson Valley at the opening reception of .edu: Art Faculty of the Hudson Valley . 14 artists who teach at 8 schools come together in an exhibition that shines a light on the current production of contemporary art in the region.

Portfolio Review Day

Reservations - $75 per session. Open to Artist Members only.

Hudson Valley MOCA presents Portfolio Review Day, an exclusive opportunity for artists to receive direct feedback on their art portfolios from renowned gallerists and contemporary art collectors. Each artist will have the chance to discuss their artwork in 20 minute one-on-one constructive critiques.

Life Drawing
Tickets - $10 members, $15 non-members

In this open drawing session for adults, find inspiration from How We Live as you work from a life model in the gallery space. Start with short poses, followed by longer poses decided through consensus. Bring dry media such as graphite, charcoal, and paper (no wet media, please). Easels, tables, chairs, and stools are available.

Life Drawing is a monthly figure drawing session for artists at all levels.

Arc of the Moral Universe: Random Readings and Intimate Conversation

Free with admission

Spontaneous readings will arise out of this meeting of artists, writers, creatives, and critical thinkers. Local participants in “Arc of the Moral Universe: A Notebook Project” will be present to stimulate lively, engaged conversation that gives visitors an intimate look into contemporary creative minds and how they respond to our current times.

“Arc of the Moral Universe: A Notebook Project” is an undertaking organized by artist Carla Rae Johnson that invited creative and critical thinkers thinkers to spend one year filling a bound notebook with personal observations and opinions, art, visual ideas, political and social commentary, poetry, and stories.

Unity Quilt Sewing Day

Free for all participants

Help us combine a mixture of fabrics, patterns, colors, and designs to create a landmark artwork for our community! In this workshop, you’ll join local students, artists, and your neighbors in Peekskill to make a fabric patch that will fill a piece of a collective Unity Quilt.

The Unity Quilt is a collaborative fiber art project that will display in Hudson Valley MOCA’s galleries as well as locations around Peekskill.

If You Build It: 3D Shapes

Tickets - $5 each participant. Open to all ages.

Have a blast thinking in 3D! Discover ways to assemble 3-dimensional geometric sculptures by cutting and folding paper into composite constructions. This is a drop-in, all ages workshop.

Art Night Out: Tabletop Masterpieces - Watercolor Still Life
Tickets - $50 each participant

Art Night Out is a BYOB art experience for adults focusing on different materials and techniques each session. Use the ebb and flow of watercolor to turn common objects into paintings with depth, shadow, and interesting composition. Make the classic still-life pop by working in monochrome, with a few colorful accents.


New and Ongoing Exhibitions

.edu: Art Faculty of the Hudson Valley
On view March 14 through April 30, 2020

.edu: Art Faculty of the Hudson Valley features 14 art faculty from 8 higher-education institutions in the Hudson Valley. The artists chosen represent a survey of artistic practice within art education and have been selected by three jurors: art critic and writer Susan Hodora, independent curator Amy Lipton, and contemporary art collector Sue Stoffel.

How We Live: Selections from the Marc and Livia Straus Family Collection
On view through December 6, 2020

How We Live is a show of contemporary sculpture and video art that moves past the human form to explore the creativity and production of humanity across a multitude of geographics, cultures, and times. Co-curated by Nicola Trezzi and Omar Lopez-Chahoud, this exhibition includes thirty-seven artists from twenty-one countries.
