June - October 2021
Asking artists across genres to contribute visual art, music, monologues, and poetry that explore the ways we are experiencing life now and how we imagine the future. Climbing the Walls was conceived from a desire to create in a time of disorientation and disconnection. We conceived of the project as a way to connect and explore a shift in the moment, ultimately looking both at COVID-19 and the protests. As more and more people decided to participate, across all genres, we realized how lucky we were to be in an artistic community that came together to communicate.
Artistic Director’s Note
This is the last posting for Climbing the Walls, although the work will continue to be up through the New Year and probably available even after. This has been an amazing project for all of us. We've been honored to put up over 55 artists. The feedback has been wonderful and we want to thank everyone who has been involved.. Special thanks to Ashley Lopez for her social media expertise and Karina Ramsey for doing administration and outreach. Thank you to Livia Straus, Jo-Ann Brody, Stephanie Haggett, and Joe Hull on the HVMOCA side. And thank you to the visual artists, photographers, poets, actors, playwrights, dancers, musicians and audience, who have made Climbing the Walls a success. Since two projects up today were designed to see how zoom can be used to create theater (or perhaps a combination of theater and film), we asked Bara Swain to write about her experiences as a "zoom driven" playwright. See her essay in the Musing section of STIE.
In the upcoming months, we will be announcing a new project. SO come back, see what is happening next, join us, enjoy the Climbing the Walls artists and most of all, keep creating! If you would like to be on our mailing list, please send a note to info@studiotheaterinexile.com and leave any comments you have.
